Dodie's Bookstore
Reading to Children

A component of our Creative Dramatics program is storytelling and reading aloud. We use these books quite often for this purpose.

(And remember, all sales benefit our non-profit theatre.)

Journey Around Boston A to Z
By Martha Day Zschock

Dodie recently did a musical theatrical interactive version of this book, from A (for Abolitionists) to Z (for Zooadopters) for a bookstore in Medford, MA, and it was very well received by all, so there are possibilities here for the imaginative reader who knows Boston and can perhaps fill in a little backstory, and can sing and dance.

Creative Storytelling Choosing, Inventing, and Sharing Tales for Children
By Jack Macguire

"A story told to a child is truly, in the words of Lewis Carroll, a 'love gift'. More than that, it is a natural extension of the creative talents that enabled you to cope with childhood and adolescence and mature into a responsible adult. Creative Storytelling is designed to help you make the most of those talents in order to improve your own life and the lives of those who look up to you for guidance." - Jack Macquire, from the Introduction.

Where The Wild Things Are
Story and Pictures By Maurice Sendak

"The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind"

Our young classes sometimes demand Where The Wild Things Are and will not accept any substitutes! Great opportunites in the text for the reading actor to bring the story alive.
