The House of Blue Leaves Play Synopsis

The Pope is coming, and chaos reigns in this winning show from John Guare! Artie Shaughnessy, a native of Queens, desperately wants a change. He dreams of life in Hollywood with his girlfriend, Bunny Flingus, as a composer for the movies. The reality: a zoo (literally) at work, and another at home with his mentally unstable wife, Bananas. If he does not make a break soon, he fears, he will be "too old to be a young talent."

To add to Artie's troubles, Bunny, an accomplished chef, refuses to cook for him until they are married; his son, who is AWOL from the army, hatches a plot to destroy the Pope; three nuns show up in his apartment in search of a television; and a glamorous movie star drops by for a visit. Pandemonium rages on until the audience is left in tears.
