Boston Premiere of a Powerful Drama
Highlighting the Voices of the Women who Served in Vietnam

The Basic Theatre Company is proud to announce the Boston premiere of A Piece of My Heart, by Shirley Lauro, opening April 7 at Charlestown Working Theatre. This powerful drama, spanning twenty years, tells the story of six women who served in the Vietnam War, and its profound impact on their lives. The remarkable script is based on the actual stories of six women veterans, told in their own words -- words that eloquently evoke the idealism, strong sense of comradeship, the emotional and physical cost and ultimately the alienation of returning home to a country where few cared and even fewer understood.

The women veterans, from vastly different backgrounds, include three nurses who communicate the physical devastation that war creates; a Red Cross volunteer who gives the "enemy" -- Vietnamese people -- a human face; an entertainer committed to uplifting the spirits of those giving their lives around her; and an intelligence officer whose warnings go unheeded, with unspeakable consequences. Directed by Elizabeth Appleby, A Piece of My Heart will be playing through April 24.
