Goldilocks and
the Three Bears

The Story

Before their stroll, Mama Bear had ladled the porridge into three bowls. The food smelled wonderful, and the girl started eating right away. The first bowl of porridge was too hot; the second was too cold. But the third bowl was just right, and she ate it all up.

After eating, Goldilocks became terribly sleepy. At the back of the cottage there were three beds, and she tried them all. The first bed was much too firm, and the second was much too squishy. But the third bed was just right; Goldilocks climbed in and was soon fast asleep.

Shortly thereafter, the bears returned from their stroll, to find things a mess. Papa noticed that someone had been using his chair; Mama noticed that someone had been using her chair; and Baby pointed out that someone had been using his chair -- and had broken it!

They then turned to their bowls of porridge. "Someone's been eating my porridge!" growled Papa. "Someone's been eating my porridge!" added Mama. "Someone's been eating my porridge," piped Baby, "and they ate it all up!"

The bears ate what little porridge was left, and started to get ready for bed. Just then, Papa noticed that someone had been sleeping in his bed. Mama then noticed that someone had been sleeping in her bed. Baby then pointed out that "someone's been sleeping in my bed...and here she is!" The commotion woke up the girl, who began to run for her life. A short chase ensued, and Goldilocks was cornered.

The scared girl was sure that she was going to be eaten, but the bears only wished to teach her a lesson. Just then, Mary knocked on the door; she and her mother had been worried sick when Goldilocks disappeared, and had been searching for days. After getting Mama Bear's porridge recipe, Mary took her sister home, to a warm welcome from her remorseful mother. For her part, Goldilocks reformed her ways, and from that day on she never, ever used anyone else's things without asking first.
