King: Consort of the Queen, father of the Prince. Flighty, fussy and agreeable. Loves gold. Quote: "Miller's Maid, awaken! Awaken! You've made me the richest King in the...uh...Kingdom..."

Miller: Local miller, mother of the Maid. Friendly, obliging and very, very talkative. Dotes on her daughter. Quote: "You are the most wonderful daughter there is, and I just want to see you happy. Meet a nice boy...fall in love...besides, I don't fib!"

Miller's Maid: Daughter of the Miller. Young, honest and hard-working. Loves her mother dearly, despite her faults. Quote: "But my friend, the Prince will want to follow me. Under no circumstances are you to allow him to do this! This is something I must do alone!"

Prince: Only son of the King and Queen. Intelligent, serious and thoughtful. Somewhat moody. Quote: "Sometimes, my friend, the King and Queen have far too much to say about everything!"

Queen: Consort of the King, mother of the Prince. Irascible, irresponsible and demanding. Loves gold. Quote: "Now, this is what you're gonna do! You're going to spin another pile of straw into gold. I mean, one can never have enough gold, can one?"

Rumpelstiltskin: Mysterious man who lives in the forest near the castle. Reclusive, irritable, a bit frightening. Has the power to spin straw into gold. Quote: "This is all the straw in the entire Kingdom...so this is the last straw, eh?"

Troubadour: Wandering minstrel and performer. Cheerful, amusing and personable. Loves a good story. Quote: "Good day, your Highness. And what, as if I didn't know, is on your royal mind this morning?"
