Hansel: Son of Otto, brother of Gretel. Smart, thoughtful and courageous. Loves food, especially candies and other sweets. Quote: "I'm soooooooo hungry... do you think whoever lives here would mind if we just had a bite?"

Gretel: Daughter of Otto, sister of Hansel. Sweet, lovable and intelligent. Blessed with a lot of common sense. Quote: "Don't worry, Hansel. I'll think of something."

Otto: Father of Hansel and Gretel, husband of the stepmother. Hard-working, honest and good-hearted. Loves his family dearly, tries hard to please them. Quote: "Chop, chop, chop is the woodcutter's life. Nag, nag, nag is the woodcutter's wife..."

Sprite: Wood fairy living in the forest. Young, somewhat shy, but generous with help when it's needed. Quote: "I think it's time to lend a hand here, don't you?"

Stepmother: Wife of Otto, stepmother to Hansel and Gretel. Picky, demanding and self-centered. Quote: "Don't you 'Dearest' me. There is barely enough food left in the house for me...I mean, us..."

Witch: Mysterious old woman living alone in the forest. Mean, conniving, and demanding. Not above trickery to get what she wants. "Yes, children, there are all sorts of small jobs around the house that a clever little girl or boy could help me with..."
