The Frog Prince |
I knew that the closest princess, Gwendolyn, was a very spoiled young girl who wouldn't even come near a Frog, let alone fall in love with one. I also knew that her mother, hearing rumors about my activities, had forbidden her to go anywhere near my clearing. It seemed highly unlikely, then, that the Frog would be able to remove the curse on his own.
But as luck would have it, Princess Gwendolyn did come to the clearing one day, to play by the enchanted well. She had with her a golden ball, which the King had given to her before he passed away. It was her most treasured possession, and she amused herself dancing and tossing the ball up in the air.
As Gwendolyn was playing, she grew careless, letting the golden ball slip out of her hands. Before she could grab it, the ball fell into the well and disappeared from her sight. Distraught over her loss, the princess sat down beside the well and began to cry.
