the Forty Thieves The Story |
My brother wasn't
always a successful businessman. In fact, he started out as a
humble stick-gatherer. He used to spend his days in the forest
searching for pieces of wood to sell in the market. People used
to mock his simple ways; why should they pay him for sticks, they
said, when they could get their own for free?
As a result, Ali Baba never made very much money at his work. Rather than being bitter, however, he comforted himself with hopes of better times to come.
One day, when he was out collecting sticks, Ali Baba stumbled across a secret cave deep in the forest. It contained treasures from villages and towns all over Persia -- gold and silver and gems and countless other precious items. The whole hoard "belonged" to a band of thieves, led by the dreadful Calvin the Great.
